Varsity Defeats Lynbrook 13-6

Posted Wednesday, March 28, 2007 by Mike Hungerford

The Varsity Lacrosse Team defeated Lynbrook 13-6 on Wednesday in a non-league game. The game, played at South Middle School in Lynbrook, featured two of the top teams in Nassau this season, according to Newsday in its preseason poll. Lynbrook led 1-0 early in the contest, and the Dalers rallied to take a 6-3 halftime lead.

The pivotal point in the game came midway through the third quarter with the Dalers leading, 8-6. Penalties to longstick Keenan Ochwat and goalie Mike Giordano gave the Owls a two-man advantage for almost a full minute. Despite the situation, the man-down unit remained cool under pressure killing both penalties. Farmingdale scored the last five goals of the game to win the contest going away.

The Dalers were led by C-Jay Engelke's 7 goals and one assist, and Dan Blau's 3 goals and 5 assists. Ochwat added a goal, as did middies Dave Aitchison and Sean Haas to account for the rest of the Farmingdale scoring. Giordano had a fine game in goal for the Dalers, and Ryan Hantverk, an honorable-mention All-American last season, scored three goals for Lynbrook. Farmingdale won 15 of 23 faceoffs, led by sophomore K.C. Worker's 12 of 18 performance.

The Dalers are back in action on Friday against league foe East Meadow. The game is scheduled for 4:45pm and will be played at Allen Park in Farmingdale.

DALER NOTES: Engelke becomes only the seventh Farmingdale player in history to score 7 goals in one game. It was last done by Matt Danowski in 2003 in the Nassau County Championship vs. Syosset. The school record is 8 goals in a game, which was done by three players: Rich Garguilo in 1991, Jim Naslonski in 1986, and Al Neffgen in 1968.
