2009 Farmingdale Lacrosse Preview Part One

Posted Thursday, January 22, 2009 by Farmingdale Lacrosse Staff

2009 will be a transition year for the Farmingdale Varsity Lacrosse Team.  Gone are seven players who earned four varsity letters and who helped the Dalers to the county championship game in 2007.  However, the goal of the Dalers remains the same: to win the program's 12th county championship, which has eluded the Dalers since the 2004 season.  In part one of the 2009 Preview we will take a look at the offensive side of the ball for the Dalers this spring.

Attack- The Dalers lose all three starting attackmen from last season in C-Jay Engelke, Danny Blau, and Sean Haas, a trio who combined for over 450 career points.  Returning this season are junior Danny Rogers, a part-time starter in 2008, sophomore Sal Tuttle, and senior Kenny Lutz, who played midfield a year ago.  Lutz has shown the ability to be a creative scorer and will play at Molloy. In addition, several midfielders may also see time on attack this spring in certain situations.

Midfield- The midfield represents an area of strength for the Dalers this spring.  Returning seniors include Joe Celano, Peter Mormino, and K.C. Worker, all of whom were starters a year ago.  Both Penn State-bound Celano (all-County honors in 2008)  and Sacred Heart recruit Mormino have been four year players who will be expected to lead in 2009.  Worker, one of the best faceoff men on Long Island, can also play attack and will have an expanded role offensively this year.  Others who are in the mix include seniors Mike Ferrigno (who may play attack), Andrew Pullen, Nick Srica, and Glenn Pristina. Underclassmen in the mix include Pat Dunne, John Lyons, Kyle Peck, Greg Catalano, and Kevin Wahl.

X-Factor-The Dalers took a hit with the loss of sophomore Tim Brown to a knee injury during football season.  In his place may be Corey Hendrickson, a sophomore who was the leading scorer on the junior varsity a year ago.  He has show the ability in off-season activities to play both attack and midfield and runs the field well.
